The Roadmap to Future Maintenance
The future of many businesses depends on the availability of assets and business processes. The availability, in turn, depends on both technology, the people operating and maintaining the assets, as well as processes and procedures. Additionally, businesses wanting to belong to World Class Maintenance must have future orientated tools such as computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Such systems should focus more on real time data input from assets, integration with other technical and business systems, and intelligently use collected data (e.g., through artificial intelligence). Advanced and adaptive maintenance will be critical for improving businesses’ competitiveness.
The ability to rapidly adapt to changes will be a new competitive weapon to keep costs down and ensure market expansion; this is valuable both to the production and the maintenance disciplines. Thus, the maintenance discipline needs to adapt to greater flexibility within – both in terms of new competence and new concepts. Businesses must develop their own tailor-made concepts as it is not sufficient to implement traditional concepts or methods like TPM, Lean, etc.
The national maintenance societies should aim to be the driving forces nationally and internationally, and should aim towards international collaboration. Together they may develop and communicate modern maintenance theories and best practices, as well as outlining requirements to education programmes and being responsible for certification of different organizational levels.
EFNMS is the umbrella organization for national maintenance societies, and is recognized as the European leader and the main network for knowledge and experience exchange in maintenance. Over the past few years EFNMS has developed rapidly and the new objectives for the organization are:
- Support members by bringing together maintenance professionalsn and organizations to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
- Enhance innovation by regular follow-up on the technology, regulations, market trends and needs.
- Develop the maintenance profession.
- Increase the awareness of the importance of maintenance and physical asset management
Based on these objectives, EFNMS will be the main body to develop, communicate, inform, and arrange conferences and certifications for modern maintenance. If you want to be a world class leader, we would like to invite you to cooperate with us through your national maintenance society or directly with EFNMS, and join us in the developmentof the maintenance roadmap for the future.
