The Robots are Used to Monitor the World's Longest Underwater Tunnel
Guozi Robotics has provided 14 intelligent inspection robots for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan link.
Shenzhen-Zhongshan link is a 49 kilometre underwater bridge–tunnel that connects the cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan. The link was opened for public use on June 30th of this year.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel submarine tunnel is 6,845 metres long and is currently the longest and widest submarine steel-shell concrete immersed tube tunnel in the world. Tunnels size and the complex environment provide considerable security challenges.
Because of this the link has a large number of intelligence facilities and inspection equipment including real time satellite monitoring and the inspection robots.
A Guozi press release explains that on average there is a robot every 1.2 kilometres in the south and north driving tunnels of the tunnel. And that these robots have a variety of functions such as infrared cameras and gas recognition capabilities. The robots move on a rail system integrated into the tunnel itself, this will allow them to reach any designated area in three minutes.
The underwater tunnel is divided into three layers, inspection robots do around the clock inspections of the central passenger tunnel.
